This
is a decorating technique using chasing
tools to create marks and indentations
on the surface, thereby bringing out the
details of a motif on flat pieces or to
accent and accentuate the design created
by other decorating methods. It can be
seen on some Asian and other handmade
or semi-handmade jewelry.
A
decorating technique used to create our
design in relief by hammering and punching
it on the opposite side, sometimes also
referred to as repousse. Specially created
metal dies are used which transfer the
design to the face of the metal and in
case of mass produced silver jewelry,
the same effect is accomplished by advanced
mechanical means. Embossing can also be
used on separate pieces which are then
affixed to the surface of the silver piece
to create the same effect.
